Mighty Deliverer,
You conquered by dying,
You led by serving,
You lifted others,
by lowering Yourself.
You are a paradox
I will never understand.
You ask me to hold on,
and to let go;
to shed the past,
and to put on the future;
to fix my eyes on the unseen rather than the seen,
to know a love that surpasses knowledge,
and to lean on what I cannot prove
in order to receive what I cannot earn.
You invite me to stop trying so hard
and be perfect instead;
and when I fail, to stop feeling guilty
and simply be forgiven.
I want to understand You,
but I can’t.
And when I try to wrap my mind around You,
I fail.
You are the mystery I will never grasp,
offffering a puzzling comfort
I cannot live without.
